Since 1977, the Pav YMCA annually honors the memory of Berwyn resident Robert W. Teeter.
The Robert W. Teeter Award is named after a former, long-time resident of South Berwyn with an illustrious record of service in both Cicero and Berwyn. A former teacher at Morton East High School, Teeter founded the West Suburban Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 1921. He was also affiliated with the Illinois State Hospital for Handicapped Children. Mr. Teeter also served as:
- Secretary of the Berwyn Park Commission
- a member of the board of a large Cicero Bank
- and as the first president of the Berwyn Kiwanis Club
In fact, he was the composer of the National Kiwanis song. Throughout his career, he was also connected to the Chicago YMCA. The Robert W. Teeter Award was designed & donated by Cicero Sculptress Lois Palmer Huth.
In memory of Bob Teeter, we recognize one outstanding community leader as the recipient of the Robert W. Teeter Award each year.
